Discover Oravská priehrada - the heart of our region
Oravská priehrada is one of the most popular tourist resorts. Thousands of tourists come here every year. In summer, the southern and western parts of the dam are the most sought after by tourists. On its banks, there is a recreational area with opportunities for swimming, yachting, pedal boats, rowboats, surfing, and other water sports.
In summer, scenic boat trips around the island are available. The most significant recreational centers are the camp with a beach in Slanická Osada, and the harbor and beaches near Námestovo. On Slanický Island of Art, in the middle of the dam, stands the Slanický Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, built in the 18th century.
Currently, the church houses a permanent exhibition of Orava folk art, sculptures, and paintings. There is also a lapidarium on the island. For fishermen, the dam offers fishing for zander, carp, pike, huchen, and others.
